Regional Blogger Picnic

Today was a really neat event ... a regional blogger picnic ("Blognic", as Todd calls it) at Lake Herman and hosted by Todd Epp (SDWatch) and Corey Heidelberger (Madville Times) It was inspiring, informative, and incredibly fun. Bob Schwartz (Politics and Hypocrisy) and his family, and Rebecca Terk (Flying Tomato Farms) were there. Scott Ehrisman (SouthDaCola) and myself represented the cartooning blogging community.

Todd presented a discussion regarding Twitter -- it's possibilities and Corey led a discussion in community journalism ... and it certainly leads to open ended exploration and more discussion on how to make this blogging thing be more participatory and interactive.

It was a great afternoon and I learned much and really had fun getting to know some really neat people in our South Dakota blogosphere.

Scott and Tim's Excellent Adventure, er, blog

First, my apologies to Tim -- I'll continue the spotlight that got put on the back burner a bit longer than should have been. Please forgive me and my poor blogging habits.
(Tim -- I owe you probably two or three lattes or beverages of your choice for not completing the series in a timely fashion and for your picking up my work at the Horsebarn!)

Anyway, back to the topic at hand. Scott has a new blog and is featuring Tim's cartoons on it as well. He's also been experimenting with color with Tim's work.

Scott Ehrisman Spotlight - Part 2

** As you continue to read about our featured artist, Scott, don't forget to click here to listen to >Scott's blend of fine music for your blog reading experience. **

In some ways, Scott's artwork resembles the "Funk Art" created by artists in San Francisco during the late 1960s and early 1970s. That superficial resemblance is not a matter of direct influence, but rather is due to Ehrisman and the artists of that era having similar sources of inspiration -- like that of underground comics, performance art, highly commercialized culture surrounding popular music, and a Dada-inspired appreciation for nonsense that informs both the Pop Art movement and much of contemporary art.

Ehrisman's education background:

Associate Degree of Applied Science
Graphic Design and Print Production
Southeast Tech, Sioux Falls

Disciplines:
Mixed Media Painting, Sculpture, and Collage
Digital Photography (contemporary and abstract)
Graphic Design
Computer Illustration
Political Cartoons
Writing

During the last several years, Scott Ehrisman has developed into one of the most high-profile artists currently working in the Sioux Falls area. He is an acknowledged leader amoung the more cutting-edge artists within the local art and popular culture.

Ehrisman approaches his art from a professional background working in the field of commercial art and graphic design. His artwork reflects a sharply satirical sense of humor and a keenly insightful appreciation for contemporary popular culture.
